Mom, you’re not invisible to us.

The invisible load is the mental and emotional burden of keeping a household and family running smoothly. It includes tasks like scheduling appointments, managing finances, planning meals, cooking, cleaning, childcare, school and after-school programs, planning one-off events, ongoing events, and a hundred other small items that need to be tracked and managed.

While some of these tasks may be visible (like cooking dinner or doing laundry), much of the work goes unseen (like the mental energy required to keep track of everyone's schedules and preferences).

The problem with the invisible load is that it's absolutely exhausting and oftentimes falls heavily on one parent— Mom. These caregivers are often so busy juggling tasks and responsibilities for everyone else that they don't have time to rest, recharge or take care of their own needs. They're not only constantly executing for the home and their family, but they’re also thinking about what needs to be done next.

But perhaps the most insidious aspect of the invisible load is that it's often invisible to those closest to us. Many times it can feel like partners do not fully understand, see or appreciate all the work that goes into keeping a household running smoothly. They may take for granted the meals on the table, the clean laundry, and the organized schedules – without realizing the effort and energy it took to make it all happen.

Which not only makes the work feel invisible, but the person doing it, too.

However, it's important to remember that even if your partner doesn't see or acknowledge your efforts, your children are watching. They see how hard you work, and they learn from your example. By modeling hard work and dedication, you're teaching your children important values that will serve them well in the future.

At Maple, we know  you are often unappreciated for the work you do to keep life running smoothly day in and day out. Ultimately, we’re here to help make the invisible load visible and to try and make it easier to share the load at home.

Today, we hope you can take a break from the chaos, and we want to let you know that nothing you do is invisible to us. Thank you for everything.
